CROSS-CANADA BIKE TOUR FOR CANADIAN CENTRE FOR MUSIC AND CLASSROOM THERAPY BEGINS CANADA DAY IN VANCOUVER

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA: A cross-Canada bike tour to raise funds for the construction of the Canadian Centre for Music and Classroom Therapy will begin July 1, 2010, in Vancouver, BC. The tour will also seek to raise awareness of the Centre`s mission to use music for the clinical treatment of a wide range of medical issues, particularly autism.
``We are only beginning to understand the tremendous therapeutic power of music,`` says Charles Lage, CEO of A Joyful Noise School of Music and the man who will be cycling across Canada this summer. ``The Centre will be based in Winnipeg and will provide a not-for-profit facility to provide intensive musical therapy and classroom instruction in social and cognitive skills for all Canadians. It will also include research facilities to advance the clinical understanding of how music can be used to treat a wide range of medical conditions.`` Lage, an adult survivor of autism, is based Hazelridge, Manitoba (approximately 30 kilometers east of Winnipeg). In addition to his professional work as a piano tuner, he leads A Joyful Noise School of Music. Along with others who have been personally touched by the healing power of music, A Joyful Noise School of Music has pianos donated to their school which are then restored or directly given to the families of those living with autism.
``Over and over, we have seen how music provides a tremendously important tool for treating those with autism, and the challenged in general,`` said Lage. ``Through this bicycle tour, we are going to share the dream of a national centre that will further our understanding of how music and classroom therapy can heal the mind and the body. As Canadians come to see our vision, I am certain that they will help us build the dream of a National Centre for Music and Classroom Therapy. ``
